Frequently Asked

Questions

Drainage Lake Charles

What’s the difference between a French drain and grading?

A French drain uses a buried pipe surrounded by gravel to redirect water away from problem areas. Grading reshapes the slope of your yard to naturally guide water away from your home. French drains are great when you can’t easily change the slope, while grading works best for large-scale water flow corrections.

How long does it take to install a French drain?

Most French drains can be installed in 1–3 days, depending on yard size, soil conditions, and obstacles like tree roots or existing landscaping.

How long does grading take?

Minor grading projects can be completed in a day. Larger jobs with heavy equipment or multiple elevation changes may take 2–4 days. (depending on weather)

How soon will my lawn recover after drainage work?

Grass recovery depends on the season and installation method. In warm growing months, sod can take root in 2–3 weeks, while seeded areas may take 4–8 weeks to fill in. In cooler months, you may see slower regrowth until spring.

Will a French drain or grading damage my lawn?

Yes, there will be temporary disturbance where we dig, but we restore the area with new soil and grass seed or sod. Within a season, most lawns look just as good—or better—than before.

How do I know if I need drainage work?

If you see standing water for more than 24 hours after rain, notice water in your crawlspace/basement, or have erosion around your foundation, you likely need drainage improvements.
